The Vinita City Council on May 6 awarded Moorhead Construction a $1,222,298 contract to complete road reconstruction and water line relocation on the 400–500 block of North Miller Street, with councilors saying the contractor estimates roughly 180 days for completion.
Council members said the project is the final major segment of a multi-year effort to rebuild portions of North Miller. City Administrator Mr. Prince said the administration has been setting aside money for the work. “We have $900,000 towards this project,” Prince said. “And this 25‑26 budget, what we will do is move another 300. We—re gonna have to move a little bit more. We have to move 300 and 22,298.”
Prince told the council the contractor estimated a 180‑day schedule and said he expected the job to improve a main artery used for school routes and local buses. “It—s a main artery from Hall Hostel to Will Rogers on all buses,” Prince said, adding the project will include new sidewalks.
Councilman Bridal moved to approve the award; Loehr seconded the motion. The motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
City staff and the council said the work has been in planning for several years and that the city had been saving $300,000 per year for three years toward the project. Prince said delaying the work further could increase costs. The contract documents call for reconstruction and water line relocation; staff noted the city will continue to manage staging and public notifications while work is under way.
The council did not identify a required external approval for the contract; the administration said it will monitor progress and return to the council if change orders or unforeseen conditions require additional authorization.
