McLean County’s Land Use and Transportation Committee unanimously approved resolutions at its May 2025 meeting to proceed with resurfacing and township road projects following the April 22 project letting.
County Highway Department staff reported two resurfacing projects: the Tawanda Gridley Road stretch from Interstate 55 to PJ Keller Highway (approximately 5.5 miles) to be milled and resurfaced, and in‑town work in Cooksville. A separate township project will apply gravel and an oil‑and‑chip surface. Benes Construction was the low bidder on the township project; staff said Tawanda Gridley and the West Township work will use Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds while Cooksville will use highway funds.
Committee members moved and seconded the resolution to approve the project letting (motion by Member Reeves, second by Member Fagan) and recorded a unanimous vote.
The county did not award long‑term construction contracts at the meeting for projects outside of the letting results discussed; staff framed the actions as approvals to proceed with the awarded lettings and follow the normal contracting process.
