Board approves multiple personnel appointments, creates new intervention specialist/coordinator role

The Greater Johnstown School District board approved a series of personnel motions during the meeting, moving through the personnel negotiation committee items and individual appointments.

Among the approved actions, the board appointed Sarah Madiera to a grant-funded supervisor of special education position at a prorated salary of $80,000 (PN26125). The board also approved appointments for school counselors and teachers, including Stephanie Heibel to a school counselor position at Johnstown High School (PN26825) and Cara Soliday to a school counselor position (PN26925). The personnel agenda included multiple special-education and elementary-school hires listed on the record.

The board also approved creation of an Act 93 administrative position titled Intervention Specialist/Coordinator, Trojan College Access Program, and authorized the administration to approve the position description and advertise the vacancy (K. Key n 31425). The motion to create the position was moved and seconded during the personnel portion of the agenda and taken with other PN items.

Several motions were approved by roll call; for at least one counselor appointment the meeting recorded a single opposing vote before the motion passed. Most personnel items moved in blocks with motions, seconds and roll-call procedures recorded in the minutes.

The board's actions covered a broad set of hires spanning summer program coordinators, classroom teachers, special education assistants and grant-funded positions. Administrators said contingencies listed in personnel documents (certifications, background checks and funding sources) applied to each appointment.
