DeKalb board approves several staffing additions, crossing-guard and SRO agreements

The DeKalb CUSD 428 Board of Education approved multiple personnel and safety-related items, including an intergovernmental agreement with the city for school resource officers, a three-year crossing-guard services agreement and several staffing additions for the coming school year and summer programs.
On formal motion, the board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of DeKalb for school resource officers. The board also approved a three-year crossing-guard service agreement with Andy Frane Services Inc. to provide crossing-guard coverage for the 2025–26 through 2027–28 school years.
Director of Human Resources Dietra Salas presented staffing and recognition items and outlined personnel requests. The board approved the addition of 1 full-time restorative-dean position for Mitchell Elementary, six instructional-assistant FTEs for 2025–26, and approval of two additional FTEs for Mitchell (one IT support specialist and one RN). The board also authorized an additional high-school summer-program FTE after student enrollment justified the need; staff noted the summer-school request was presented as information/action because student numbers materialized close to session start.
On extracurricular pay and differentials, the differential committee recommended adding one additional assistant boys-soccer coach and creating a boys-volleyball program with one head coach and two assistants; administration and business staff told the board those additions were affordable after review. Board members asked several questions about funding sources and whether those new stipends had been budgeted; staff said building discretionary funds and district affordability checks inform those approvals.
Board members pressed for fiscal clarity on several items. On differential and staff-credential items presented elsewhere on the agenda, members requested that staff provide clearer cost projections before final budget adoption.
All personnel and service-contract items in this package passed by roll-call vote.
