New DeKalb school board sworn in; members elect officers and set 7 p.m. regular meeting time

The DeKalb Community Unit School District 428 Board of Education swore in newly elected members, conducted officer elections and set a standing meeting time at the board's reorganization session.
Chris Boyes was elected president; Jose ("JJ") Jacquez was elected vice president; and Steve Byers was elected board secretary following nominations and roll-call voting. Jackie Pringle was appointed board clerk and the board approved the treasurer appointment for the district's Chief School Business Official (CSBO). The board then approved a schedule change: regular open meetings will begin at 7 p.m., with any required closed session to occur before that start time.
Outgoing board president Daisy Ramirez offered farewell remarks. Superintendent Minerva Garcia Sanchez presented recognition items and led the administration of the meeting's personnel actions. New President Boyes addressed the board and community with three pledges on communication, transparency and accountability and said he will add a president's note to weekly board updates.
The board discussed public-notice practice under the Open Meetings Act and different meeting-time configurations before adopting the 7 p.m. open-session start time. Board members also agreed to circulate committee sign-ups and school-liaison preferences for the new term.
