Skamania County commissioners voted April 22 to approve a memorandum of understanding with Skamania Fire District No. 4 to support county presence and operations on the West End.
The MOU, which county legal staff reviewed and which the fire district’s board approved before coming to the county, outlines the county’s planned periodic presence in the district (one day per week was discussed) and use of district facilities for county business. Commissioners said the arrangement has generated positive comments from residents and the fire district, and they discussed logistics such as internet access, use of meeting rooms, and avoiding the appearance of improper gifts of public funds.
A motion to approve the MOU was made and seconded; the board approved the agreement by voice vote. The county intends to coordinate schedules so county staff time on the West End can be effective and to monitor the arrangement for residents’ benefit.
