Belton ISD canvasses May 3 election, declares Rodney Beck Area 3 trustee

The Belton Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday canvassed the May 3, 2025, trustee election returns and declared Rodney Beck elected to represent Area 3 after staff reported Beck received 93 votes to Suzanne M. McDonald's 78.

The meeting notice was posted "in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Chapter 551," the board president said at the start of the special meeting. Trustees heard that tally sheets and DS200 machine result tapes had been provided for early voting, ballots by mail and election day and were available at members' places.

An elections staff member summarized the totals and said, "Rodney Beck received 93 votes. Suzanne m McDonald received 78 votes. In accordance with board policy BBB local and board operating procedures, an area candidate must receive more votes than any other candidate for the area to be act elected by plurality." The clerk asked for a motion "to approve order canvassing the returns of the May as presented and declare Rodney Beck elected as school board trustee for Area 3." Trustee Lee seconded the motion.

A trustee asked for clarification about reconciling the DS200 tapes with the totals; another staff member walked the board through the process and confirmed the numbers matched, saying, "Okay. So just add the 3 numbers up and we're good." The board president then called for a voice/hand vote; the chair said, "All those in favor, please raise your hand," and the motion was approved.

There were no registered public commenters for the special meeting. The board noted three trustees were absent from the start of the meeting: Miss McDonald, Mr. Norwood and Miss Bass. The meeting convened at 8:00 a.m. and adjourned at about 8:04 a.m.

The board's formal action was limited to canvassing the returns and declaring the winner; no additional directives or follow-up tasks were recorded during the meeting.
