The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners approved an interstate mutual aid agreement with Daggett County, Utah, on May 6 to formalize cross‑border law-enforcement assistance.
Undersheriff Joe Tomich explained the agreement replaces an informal handshake arrangement and follows both Wyoming and Utah statutes prescribing interstate mutual aid. The agreement allows limited law-enforcement duties by each county’s officers within the other jurisdiction under prescribed conditions and requires signature by the Wyoming attorney general and governor after the county chair and county sheriff sign.
Daggett County’s governing bodies and sheriff have already signed the agreement; commissioners authorized the chairman to sign on behalf of Sweetwater County.
Ending: Tomich said the agreement will remain in force until April 29, 2029, at which point it would need renewal; commissioners approved the pact unanimously.
