County awards GIS services contract to William H. Smith & Associates to restore mapping capacity

Sweetwater County commissioners on May 6 approved a contract award to William H. Smith & Associates to provide GIS services for the assessor’s and county mapping needs.
Assessor Dave Divas told the board the county lost its GIS coordinator in January and that a contracted services approach would be more cost-effective than hiring a full-time replacement. He said the county received 10 RFQ responses and a four-person review panel — including county staff — scored submissions before selecting William H. Smith & Associates. Legal review and required insurance/workers’ comp documents were cleared before award.
The contract will provide parcel maintenance, map-server administration and project work on an as-needed basis. Divas said combining the assessor’s funding with county contributions would still be less expensive than a full-time hire.
Ending: Commissioners authorized the chairman to sign the contract and directed staff to proceed with transition planning to restore GIS server maintenance and parcel workflows.
