The Village of Wheeling promoted firefighter-paramedic Sean Kelly to the rank of lieutenant during the May 6 meeting. Kelly was sworn in and received a badge pinning; the ceremony noted his years of service and operational roles.
Kelly has been an acting officer for more than 10 years and has served on the department’s HAZMAT team, dive team and swift-water rescue unit, according to the presentation to the board. He has also taught CPR and public education classes, served on the union’s executive board and regularly filled officer duties during absences. Family and department members attended the ceremony and Kelly thanked his wife, children, parents and fellow firefighters.
The promotion included the traditional helmet and badge recognition; no separate board vote was required for the internal promotion and oath administration.
