City says Chiquita lock project ahead of schedule after resident concerns about pace

Resident David Halsey urged the council to reconsider plans for adding parking and structures at the yacht club and suggested that some planned facilities be moved to the golf course. He also noted a recent news report about Corps of Engineers permits for the yacht club renovation.
Council members asked the city manager for a construction update. The city manager said the contractor had been working to remove dirt and was “well ahead of schedule,” noting a completion estimate of about two weeks if current progress continued. He explained that haul‑truck logistics, including vehicle weight limits, sometimes result in trucks leaving the site partially filled and that truck availability was a constraint early in the demolition phase.
The manager said the remaining major work included two concrete seawalls associated with the project and encouraged residents to visit the site for progress observations. Council members asked staff to provide written updates to residents who had inquired; the city manager said staff would supply an email update for the council and residents.
