Sheriff's office says morgue/storage project advancing; slab targeted for May 12

Mike Ward of the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office briefed commissioners on construction progress for the county morgue and sheriff storage building.
Ward said crews poured the top half of stem walls and had started removing forms; much of the in‑slab plumbing was installed and the contractor is targeting a slab pour around May 12. Ward said the construction team has been building up gravel around the foundation to improve access and that last week the project had been about 33% complete prior to the slab pour. The next pay application under review is roughly $630,000, he said.
Ward described the current challenge of locating an existing 2‑inch water line on the property. The planned new water route will run parallel to the property line into the building near the new sewer connection; locating and splicing into the existing fill‑station lines has been difficult because some existing lines are buried as deep as 8–10 feet. Ward said the team expects to produce as‑builts for new work and will attempt to confirm depths where splices are made.
He also told the commissioners that two fill stations on the riverside of the building will be maintained for vehicle and equipment servicing, while one previously removed station will be decommissioned. Ward said a change order covering the new water service work is forthcoming.
No formal county vote on contract changes was recorded at the meeting; Ward said the change order will be submitted for review.
