County and West End leaders flag failed chip seal on Highway 110 and ask staff to explore fixes and transit options

“That chip seal has not held, and that road is really in almost worse shape than it was before the chip seal last year,” Commissioner Ozias said, describing complaints from West End residents. Officials discussed whether the county could seek to recoup costs from the contractor or partner with the state, and noted county crews have chip-seal experience on the West End.
Tribal leaders asked the county to reach out to the state for help and to consider partnering on repairs. Commissioners said the county might explore creative partnerships but did not commit to funding or a formal agreement at the meeting. County staff were asked to assess options and report back to commissioners and the public.
Participants also raised transit needs for the West End. Tribal leaders asked county transit to consider adding a noon run to La Push; commissioners said they would pass that request to transit management for evaluation.
Separately, county officials reported the National Park plans a closure of Ward Road for major repairs in the 2026 season; commissioners said the county will track that project because a closure could affect regional travel and transit planning.
No formal votes or budget approvals were taken; the matters were described as topics for follow-up and coordination with state and federal partners.
