Mary Anne Haller, the new manager of the Berea branch of the public library system, introduced herself to City Council and described recent increases in local library use and services.
Haller, who said she has worked in the library system for 21 years and moved to manage Berea after supervising branches elsewhere, told council that systemwide circulation rose about 4.6% from 2023 to 2024 and that Berea’s circulation rose about 20% in the same period. She said customer visits to the Berea branch were up roughly 13.8% compared with 2023 and that the branch lists 13,257 cardholders who designate Berea as their home branch.
Haller described current programs and services: a free bike‑lending service, a ScanEZ device that can scan pages from books (useful for copying pictures from older high‑school yearbooks), and the summer reading challenge for all ages, with registration beginning June 2 and activities running through July 31. She said the library’s annual report with those statistics had been released recently.
Council welcomed Haller and members thanked the library staff.
