Norwalk Police Department awarded Lexipol gold status for 2024 policy management

Norwalk Police Chief reported to the City Council that the Norwalk Police Department has achieved Gold status in Lexipol’s policy and training review for 2024.

The chief said the department had uploaded nearly all required policies and was using Lexipol’s daily training bulletins and policy-signoff features to ensure officers stay current. “We just received our flap yesterday and we are at the gold status,” the chief said. He described the program as including policy updates, a daily training bulletin program and remote access for officers via an app.

The award matters because Lexipol packages policies and training that are written and reviewed by attorneys and updated to reflect court decisions, the chief said. Council Member Vuckel asked whether the gold status is an annual award and whether requirements change; the chief said Lexipol issues awards yearly and that the core requirements appear stable though Lexipol is developing additional training-focused measures. Council members also asked whether Lexipol’s policies are statewide or national; the chief said Lexipol operates nationwide but tailors policy subsets to each state through state-specific attorneys.

Council members praised staff and the mayor for supporting the purchase and implementation of Lexipol. The chief said the system tracks when an officer acknowledged a policy and preserves the policy text that was in effect on any given date, which the chief said will help if past policy application is later questioned.

No formal action or vote was taken on the Lexipol report; the presentation was part of the safety-service update.
