Council approves reduced-scope Reedhead House adobe and plaster repairs at $251,900

The Reidhead (Reedhead) House — built in 1912 and acquired by the city in 2021 — had a building-condition assessment that identified critical, serious and minor work. Council previously directed staff to pursue critical repairs first. Initial bids on a larger work scope exceeded the city’s budget, so staff reduced the scope to focus on adobe and plaster repairs and returned the item to bid.
Staff presented three bids on the pared-down scope: Layhouse Corporation at $251,900, G and G Specialty Contractors at $268,449 and Captive Construction and Renovation at $334,992. Staff recommended awarding the contract to Layhouse Corporation in an amount not to exceed $251,900.
Councilman Clark moved to award the contract to Layhouse Corporation for Reedhead House restoration (adobe and plaster repair), Project FM5225.2, in an amount not to exceed $251,900; Councilman Judd seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the work follows previously completed foundation and water-management work and that completion will allow the Show Low Museum to reopen the house for public tours when appropriate.
