The commissioners approved Westmount Fire Department’s plan to replace a 2016 engine with a 2026 apparatus priced at $692,250; the department plans to finance roughly $300,000 with Southern Bank and trade in the old unit to cover remaining cost; county funds not required.
Nash County commissioners approved May 5 the Westmount Fire Department’s request to purchase a new fire apparatus with a sale price of $692,250 and to finance approximately $300,000 through Southern Bank.
Emergency management director Tripp Bunn presented the request and said Westmount plans to trade in the existing 2016 engine to offset the remaining cost. Bunn said Westmount is not requesting an increase to its tax rate and that the department expects to take possession of the new apparatus in December or January.
Commissioner Arrington asked the make of the apparatus; Bunn said he believed it was manufactured by Deep South. After Bunn restated the recommendation, the board voted in favor of the purchase and financing plan by voice vote.
Ending: The board’s approval authorizes the department to proceed with the purchase and intended financing; final details and delivery timing will be coordinated between Westmount, Southern Bank and county staff.
