The Nash County Board of Commissioners approved assigning the new road name 'Driver Training Lane' to an existing paved driveway that provides access to Nash Community College's commercial driver’s license (CDL) training facility; address change for 3650 Eastern Avenue will be required.
The Nash County Board of Commissioners voted May 5 to assign the new road name Driver Training Lane to a paved driveway that provides access to Nash Community College’s commercial driver’s license training facility.
Planning director Adam Tyson said the college, as property owner and applicant, requested that the county assign the new road name to the driveway on the north side of Eastern Avenue that leads to the CDL training facility. Tyson noted the action is administrative and separate from any future NCDOT maintenance decisions: “I do not believe it was built to NCDOT standard. I do not believe the college has any intent of requesting the state to maintain this driveway. It has a gate on it today.”
Tyson explained the change will require the facility’s street address (currently 3650 Eastern Avenue) to be updated to reflect Driver Training Lane if the board approves the request.
After a brief public hearing with no speakers, Commissioner Arrington moved to approve the road‑name assignment; Commissioner Howell seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
Ending: County staff will update addressing records and notify emergency services and the U.S. Postal Service as appropriate following the address change.
