Kittitas County Public Health on May 6 requested approval to purchase a Randox multi-stat analyzer, a toxicology testing instrument, using one-time funds. Public health director Chelsea Levers said the device would improve the county’s epidemiological surveillance of substance use and overdoses and would be an asset shared across departments, with the coroner’s office identified as the primary partner.
Levers said that, if approved, county staff would develop interdepartmental agreements to govern shared use. A commissioner asked for clarification about the word "surveillance," and Levers clarified she meant epidemiological surveillance and data collection rather than field surveillance.
The board received the presentation without objection; staff will proceed with procurement pending final approval and interdepartmental-use agreements.
