Juvenile Crime Prevention Council approved two-year funding approach; county certification reported to commissioners

The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council voted last month to adopt a funding plan that moves qualifying programs to two-year contracts, the council’s representative told the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners at the May 5 work session.
Heather Mobley, speaking to the board, said the council’s funding plan will use two-year funding for all qualifying programs except for two: (1) truancy court mediation administered by the Conflict Resolution Center, which has only been funded for half a year and does not yet qualify for two-year funding; and (2) Transforming Youth Movement, which reconfigured services and therefore does not qualify this cycle. Mobley said other programs that meet the criteria will receive two-year funding and that the council approved the plan at its prior meeting.
Mobley also reported two vacancies on the council: the seat previously held by former Commissioner Measmer and a vacant business-community representative seat. She said those seats will be filled once the full county board is seated and operating.
Because the board lacked a quorum, commissioners received the report for information; no county action was taken at the May 5 meeting.
