Morton amends municipal code to adjust liquor licenses; adds automatic seven-day expiration for temporary nonprofit permits

The Morton Board of Trustees adopted Ordinance 26-01 on May 20, 2025, amending Title 3, Chapter 8, Section 6 of the Morton Municipal Code to adjust the number and terms of certain liquor licenses.
Village officials said the amendment reduces the number of authorized Class E and Class G licenses by one each following the recent closing of a business that had used one of those licenses. The ordinance also modifies the Class H temporary permit language so those nonprofit temporary licenses automatically expire after seven days, eliminating the need for the village to pass a separate ordinance every time a seven-day permit is issued.
The village administrator explained that liquor license renewals occur annually on May 1 and that the change to Class H is intended to streamline administration for short-term nonprofit events. Trustees asked no substantive questions during the discussion; a roll-call vote approved the ordinance.
