Council members encouraged the EDC and town staff to canvass local farms and farm‑market managers for interest and to reach out to Farm Fresh Rhode Island and other regional organizers. The council heard from Isaac Reed of the Rhode Island Food Policy Council, who offered technical support and volunteer interest, and from Gary Parker and other residents who said private‑sector market management is an option.
The council expressed consensus to pursue a community‑driven and market‑manager approach rather than appointing a formal commission. Staff and the EDC were asked to report back with outreach results and potential managers or volunteer coordinators willing to run the market and handle vendor recruitment, scheduling and site logistics.
The council did not create a new board or pass an ordinance; it asked the EDC and recreation commission to continue conversations and to return with proposals.
Next steps: Town staff and the EDC to canvass farmers and Farm Fresh Rhode Island, identify possible private market managers, and report back to council on findings and suggested structure.
