Lewiston makes city administrator’s report a standing agenda item; new administrator gives first update

The Lewiston City Council on May 6 amended its rules of procedure to add the City Administrator’s Report as a standing agenda item immediately following the first public comment period; the motion, with a friendly amendment to set placement after public comment, passed by roll call.
“I'm requesting an amendment…to add the city administrator's report as a standing, council, agenda item,” City Administrator Brian Cainrath said when presenting the proposed change. Councilors agreed to place the report after public comment so the public could respond to administration remarks later in the meeting.
Cainrath then delivered the first administrator’s report, describing three public meet‑and‑greet sessions held before his start and committing to monthly engagement events that may include listening sessions or town halls. He thanked local hosts for early sessions and said the city will continue community outreach. Cainrath also introduced new staff members: John Boyce, deputy director of economic and community development; Alvin Padilla, landscape and tree worker; Maverick Archer, equipment mechanic; Stuart Cushman, highway worker, Class B; and Joe Grokmal, office staff.
The amendment was presented as a transparency measure intended to keep councilors and the public informed about administration initiatives; councilors and public commenters expressed support for the addition.
