Sammamish council approves resolution to place King County Medic One levy on 2025 ballot

The Sammamish City Council voted 7‑0 on May 6 to approve a resolution supporting placement of King County’s proposed six‑year Medic One / emergency medical services (EMS) levy on the 2025 ballot. The resolution follows a presentation by King County Public Health earlier in April and implements a state requirement that a supermajority of large cities consent before the county council may place the measure on the ballot.
City analyst Mike Sugg summarized the county proposal for council. Sugg said the proposed replacement six‑year levy is estimated to generate approximately $1,500,000,000 over the six‑year period if approved by voters and that the estimated cost to the owner of a median‑value home in Sammamish would be about $357 per year — roughly $40 more annually than the current levy charge. Sugg noted state law requires at least 75% of cities over 50,000 population approve placement of the levy before the county may proceed; Sammamish is one of the 11 affected cities included in that requirement.
Council moved and seconded a resolution to place the countywide EMS levy on the ballot pursuant to RCW 84.52.069; the council’s voice vote was recorded as “motion carries, 7‑0.” The city clerk and staff will follow county procedures for notification to the county council and record the council’s resolution in support of placement on the ballot.
