Lions Club representative urges re-establishment of Jasper chapter

At the May 6 meeting, George Head, representing Lions Clubs International, urged Jasper residents to help re-establish a local Lions Club chapter, saying the organization provides vision clinics, disaster relief and other community services.
Head told the council that Jasper previously had a Lions Club that closed in 2022 and that a new local chapter would need a minimum of 20 members. “Beginning today, as day 1, we have a team to begin the process in Jasper. What we need is a minimum of 20 service minded citizens who would like to do their part to help meet the needs within the local community,” he said.
Head described Lions’ statewide mobile vision clinic and the organization’s long record of humanitarian grants and disaster response, and he said he and colleagues would be available after the meeting for anyone interested in joining.
The remarks were made during the public-comment portion of the agenda; the council did not take immediate action on the request.
