Council authorizes mayor to approve core drilling to test city-interest property

The Jasper City Council on May 6 approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Gary Cowan to execute an agreement to allow core drilling on a property the city is evaluating for potential municipal use.
Mayor Gary Cowan (as identified in the meeting proclamation) described the action as follow-up to prior executive-session discussions about a parcel the city is investigating. “This is just some property that we've talked about in executive session, that the city may be interested in, but we don't know the suitability of the property until we do some core drilling,” he said, asking the council to allow him to proceed with testing.
Council members moved and seconded the resolution and approved the mayor’s authorization. The vote authorized staff to conduct subsurface testing to determine whether the property would suit future city use; no acquisition or other final decisions were made during the meeting.
