Council approves event permits, engineering inspection agreement and declares surplus vehicle

The Jasper City Council on May 6 approved multiple routine items including event permits, an engineering inspection agreement for phase three paving, and a surplus-vehicle declaration.
City staff member Kelly Barnes presented event permits: a Hometown Heroes 5K submitted by the Jasper Police Department for May 17 at Gamble Park (setup 7 a.m., start 9 a.m., end noon, route following the previously approved 2019 Turkey Trot route) with proceeds to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center in Jasper; and a community softball game requested by Jace Abram for May 24 at AP Howell Park with a partial road blockage on Fifth Street West and required approvals from police, fire and street departments. “Police, fire, and street departments have given their approvals,” Barnes told the council.
Council also approved a request to allow the mayor to enter into an agreement with Seine Associates (transcript later references a similar name, “Sain and Associates”) for engineering inspection on phase 3 paving projects in the amount of $20,000, and adopted a resolution declaring a 2008 Freightliner as unneeded surplus, to be donated to the city of Dora.
Council members moved, seconded and approved the items as presented. The council also granted staff permission to solicit bids for a mobile home office unit for the sanitation department, which staff described as part of ongoing operational needs.
