The Ocoee City Commission on May 6 moved to reappoint two existing members to the Human Relations Diversity Board and clarified a staff report that had caused confusion over which seats were expiring.
Deputy city staff earlier reported several expiring seats and identified one applicant already on file. Commissioners disagreed briefly about which district seats and at-large terms were expiring; the city clerk clarified that two seats—District 1 and an at-large seat appointed by the mayor—were up for reappointment at the end of the month and that a District 2 applicant’s file could be held for up to a year if commissioners wanted to consider that person for an at-large vacancy later.
Commissioner Kennedy moved to reappoint Vinny Singh to the District 1 seat and reappoint Kelly Beck to the mayor's at-large seat; Commissioner Wilson seconded. Commissioners said they would review one additional applicant before the next meeting for another vacancy. Staff said it would hold the District 2 application on file and present formal reappointments as required by commission policy.
The motion to reappoint Singh and Beck was made and seconded at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to return with any additional names for remaining vacancies at the next meeting on May 20.
