Bell Avenue elevator funded but ‘other ADA items’ remain; committee asks staff for punch lists

Committee members discussed ADA compliance needs at Bell Avenue and across remaining schools during the May 6 William Penn School District Property Committee meeting. Staff said installing the Bell Avenue elevator should allow students with mobility impairments to access each floor, but additional interior work will still be required for full ADA compliance.
Ms. Ivy asked whether completing the projects listed would achieve all ADA compliance objectives the district promised last year. Staff replied the Bell Avenue elevator would not, by itself, accomplish full ADA compliance; outstanding items such as sink heights and handrails are part of a larger interior renovation described in the district's long-term facilities master plan. Mr. Collier asked staff to provide a punch list of remaining ADA items for each school and estimated project costs at the next property meeting; staff agreed to do so.
The committee also approved a motion to commence the request-for-proposals (RFP) process for the Bell Avenue elevator (motion recorded as “approve commencement of the RFP process for Veil Avenue Elevator” in the transcript; meeting minutes indicate this refers to the Bell Avenue elevator). The motion was approved by voice vote.
The committee emphasized that while the elevator is a major accessibility step, full ADA compliance at Bell Avenue will require follow-up interior renovations and additional funding decisions in future meetings.
