Ocoee schedules May 28 comprehensive-plan community meeting; Forest Lake operations transition underway; city weighing ZIP-code lobbying

City staff told the Ocoee City Commission on May 6 that a community meeting on the city's comprehensive plan will be held Wednesday, May 28, at the Lakeshore Center from 6 to 8 p.m., with a presentation at 6 p.m., question-and-answer with staff and information stations.
Staff said printed copies of the draft plan are available in the planning department and the document is posted online. “This is a great opportunity for us to get feedback on the comp plan and reactions,” staff said.
Staff also reported that the interim operator Down to Earth has assumed operations at Forest Lake. Staff said the transition has “gone very smooth” and that priorities include rapidly addressing emergent spring vegetation and turf concerns; a comprehensive update and the operator's operations plan will be presented at the next commission meeting. Staff said the interim operator purchased golf-shop merchandise at wholesale, that the restaurant hours at Forest Lake have been extended to Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and that on-course beverage and snack service is available daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On mail-code policy, staff briefed commissioners on a multi-jurisdiction effort to pursue a unified ZIP code. The city is participating in the National ZIP Code Advocacy Coalition and staff said Ocoee is included in a bill introduced as “House Bill 3,095,” with related filings named in the transcript as “House Bill 672” and “Senate Bill 14 55.” Staff said the coalition plans to hire lobbyists and that Ocoee's share of lobbying costs likely would not exceed $10,000; commissioners asked staff to return with more details at a future meeting.
Staff also said the city received federal reimbursement for Hurricane Ian in the amount of $643,639.13.
Staff committed to present a fuller update on the Forest Lake operator's plan and to return to the commission with additional detail about the ZIP-code/lobbying option.
