Averill Park, N.Y. — District administrators told the Board of Education on May 6 that the district met with the county sheriff’s office and other area superintendents about a body-camera program for school resource officers and that the plan is to place cameras beginning Sept. 1.
An administrator said the next step is drafting a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the sheriff’s office; “That MOA will be approved by the board, so you’ll get more information on that,” the administrator said during the superintendent’s report. District and county staff discussed a coordinated rollout tied to the school calendar and asked the district to start the program on Sept. 1 rather than earlier in the summer.
No MOA was presented for board action at the May 6 meeting; district officials said they will bring the drafted agreement to the board for review and approval when it is complete.
