The Williamsburg-James City County School Board voted to appoint Dr. Daniel Keever as division superintendent for a three-year term beginning June 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2028. The board approved a resolution authorizing the chair and clerk to execute an employment agreement attached to the resolution.
The board acted after adding the appointment to the meeting agenda and holding a formal roll-call vote. Board member Mrs. Donner moved the resolution to appoint Keever; the motion was seconded and the resolution passed with all members recorded as voting in the affirmative.
The appointment follows a nationwide search that school board members said was competitive. During the meeting Mrs. Donner said the search "was truly a nationwide search. We interviewed a lot of people and it was not a foregone conclusion." Dr. Keever addressed the board, thanking members and saying he was “incredibly humbled and honored by the trust and confidence that you have placed in me in selecting me as the next superintendent for this whole division.” He said he looks forward to “listening and learning, continuing to visit our schools, hearing from students and staff and building relationships across the community.”
Board members praised the committee and the process. The resolution authorizes the chair and clerk to execute an employment agreement for the term beginning June 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2028.
The board took the appointment as a formal action item; no further details of the employment agreement were read into the record during the public portion.
Dr. Keever will assume full responsibilities on June 1, 2025, the date specified in the resolution passed by the board.
