The City of New Ulm City Council on May 6 authorized temporary overnight camping at South German Park for the River Valley BMX Association’s state qualifying event scheduled for May 29 through June 1, 2025.
Parks staff said the event has requested temporary camping in prior years and that no regular overnight camping is allowed in city parks without council approval. Staff reported they expect between one and ten campers, anticipate no more than five recreational fires during the event, and will notify the police department. Park and Recreation staff said past events required little policing and produced no significant cleanup issues.
The council adopted a resolution authorizing temporary overnight camping near Third South Street for the BMX Minnesota state qualifier on the nights of May 29–June 1, 2025, with the stated limits and staff notification requirements.
