West Seneca to host SUNY/AmeriCorps students for summer FAFSA help and tutoring

Dr. Krueger said the district applied for and was selected for the SUNY/AmeriCorps summer program. The AmeriCorps participants have completed background checks and required training; the tutoring component requires completion of a training called “Tutoring University,” he said. Exact schedules, locations and the grade levels or subject areas for tutoring had not been finalized; the superintendent said those details will be shared with families when available.
The superintendent framed the FAFSA assistance as a response to documented barriers families face: “the communities that tend to have the lowest percentages of completing applications are communities with the greatest need,” he said, citing language, literacy, technology access and complexity of the application as obstacles. The district plans to publicize dates and locations for on‑site FAFSA support once details are confirmed.
Dr. Krueger also highlighted school and staff recognitions and student achievements during his report, including teacher awards and student academic and athletic milestones.
