San Juan County human-resources staff presented a revised salary matrix and described several reclassifications and newly added job bands.
HR reported three reclassifications and additions that have budgetary impact and are included in the interim budget: three safety and medical captain positions for the fire department (funded by the fire gross-receipts tax), reclassification of a code compliance officer, a finance technician to finance coordinator, and an HR support coordinator to HR generalist. HR noted 17 positions remain frozen and must be approved by the commission via a budget adjustment before being filled.
HR also presented several additional matrix additions (marked in green on the distributed matrix) that do not carry a current budgetary impact but are being added to address future growth and to align compensation bands across departments. Finance staff said the budget packet for May 20 incorporates the funded reclassifications and salary changes discussed in the workshop.
