The Madison County School Board voted unanimously to approve personnel changes that included supplement payments, retroactive DROP participant listings, resignations, leaves of absence and corrections to employment contracts.
Dr. Pitts presented the personnel packet and told the board it included four personnel items: supplement changes, a lengthy list of DROP participants (not presented to the board in the previous 5 1/2 years), baseball supplements, and routine personnel actions including resignations and leaves. He said corrections were made to employment contract types for two staff members and asked for board approval: "So I do ask for your approval for these."
The board approved the personnel changes on a motion by Miss Knight, seconded by Miss Hagan, with a recorded vote of 5-0 to approve.
Why this matters: The superintendent said DROP participant approvals had not been presented to the board in about five and a half years, and the packet was intended to "catch these up." The packet also corrected contract classifications: Lisa Smith was corrected to an annual contract after being provided as an annual contract in error, and Jada Williams was corrected to an annual contract because she was rehired in 2012 and should be classified as such. The packet included supplements for baseball and other routine personnel recommendations.
Discussion and clarifications: Board members asked about the certifications of a newly hired elementary teacher at Madison County Central School and whether she had a reading endorsement; administration replied that the hire is elementary certified with a reading endorsement and that final classroom placement had not yet been decided.
Outcome and next steps: Personnel changes were approved 5-0. The board raised questions about final classroom assignments and certification details, which administration said it would continue to clarify off the floor; no additional votes were required.
