Jed Ottoson of the city water division told the council the department treats conservation as a priority and reported the city’s current water conservation goal: “our water conservation goal, that we're we're hitting is, 196 gallons per capita per day,” he said. Ottoson described city efforts including leak detection, metering of pressurized irrigation (PI) and culinary systems, and an online utility customer portal that allows about 625 customers to review daily and hourly usage to spot spikes.
Corey Pierce and other staff noted the plan is required by the state but said the city pursues conservation regardless of the regulatory requirement. Councilmembers complimented the report, and the council voted unanimously to approve the resolution adopting the water conservation plan.
Staff said the plan will guide conservation programming and noted a multi‑year target to reduce per‑capita consumption further; they also highlighted customer resources such as toilet‑replacement programs and sprinkler audits listed on the city’s water conservation web page.
