The Senate Education Committee advanced House Bill 2695 on May 7. The bill would require the hiring committee for the president of Oregon Health & Science University to include representatives of the university community and at least one president of a public university. It also gives the OHSU board of directors the authority to require inclusion of at least one faculty member, one non‑faculty staff member and one student body member on the presidential search committee and to allow campus labor organizations to provide comments or reports at regular board meetings if requested in advance.
Committee staff described the bill's purpose and provisions: "House Bill 2,695 requires the hiring committee for the president of Oregon Health and Science University to include representatives of the university community and at least 1 president of a public university. It gives the OHSU board of directors the ability to require the inclusion of at least 1 faculty member, 1 non faculty staff member, and 1 member of the student body on the presidential search committee." Committee members voted to move the bill to the floor with a due‑pass recommendation.
No substantive amendments were recorded in the committee work session. Committee members indicated they would ask a legislator to carry the bill to the floor as the session proceeds.
