Council approves July 4 parade route and state highway closure resolution

The Seward City Council approved the Seward Fourth of July committee’s request for the annual festivities, including a parade route and a resolution to close a portion of the state highway where the parade crosses it.
Greg, a city staff member, said the parade route and staging are the same as previous years and that because the route crosses the highway, the city must send a resolution to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (as part of the permitting process) approving the crossing and closures. "It's our same normal routing and staging," Greg said, adding that the resolution will let the fire and police departments coordinate street closures and public safety resources.
The council approved the parade and street-closure permit by motion and adopted the related resolution listed as resolution number 2025-10. Staff said the route had been reviewed with the fire department to ensure safety and that published closure times will be shared with emergency services.
