The Board of Trustees approved a $57,434 contract with Bluestem Ecological Services to install native landscaping at the Riverwoods Police Department and to provide three years of maintenance intended to establish the planting.
Director Witt said Village Ecologist Steve Zimmerman coordinated the project and recommended award after evaluating bids and bidder qualifications. "The recommendation that he forwarded to us was that they'd be looking at doing a contract with Bluestem Ecological Services in the amount of $57,434 to do the plantings there. And, included within that is a maintenance contract…for a period of 3 years," Witt told trustees.
Trustee Graf asked about an apparent order‑of‑magnitude difference between the two submitted bids. Witt said Zimmerman reviewed both bids and determined the lowest bidder was qualified and that his review satisfied staff concerns. The board then voted to approve the contract; the motion passed on roll call.
The contract includes installation and a three‑year maintenance period to ensure plant establishment; staff said the project had been delayed previously because of uncertainty about nearby Saunders Road work. Trustees did not amend the contract at the meeting; staff will finalize the agreement and direct the contractor to begin once site conditions are appropriate.
