Tooele County commissioners approved small-business expansion grant recommendations at the May 2025 meeting, awarding a total of $48,317 to five local businesses from a pool of $48,000 (noting the transcript shows distributed amounts totaling $48,317).
Assistant County Manager Britney Lopez, representing the Community Economic Opportunity Board, said the county received 31 applications in less than 30 days requesting roughly $286,000. The board’s funding criteria limited awards to businesses located in Tooele County, with one to 15 employees, and uses including startup costs, equipment, inventory, marketing, physical expansion and hiring. Awards are post-performance; recipients must provide receipts and report back after 18 months.
The board recommended awards to the following applicants: C and T Fab LLC — $10,000; Bridal Industrial Concepts LLC — $10,000 (utility connection and retail space); Tier 1 Kinetics — $10,000 (showroom/signage and stock); KCM Cable and Manufacturing — $10,000 (equipment and expansion); and Elgin Nuts (listed in the packet as "Elgin Nuts") — $8,317 (new retail placements with regional grocers). The commission approved the board’s recommendations by voice vote.
Lopez said the board will reach out to other applicants to identify additional funding sources and will consider adjusting the program budget in future grant cycles to accommodate more applicants.
