North Brookfield — The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to approve payroll and several warrants and granted a set of small spending requests and transfers brought before the board.
The board approved payroll warrant number 23 for $343,326.78; School warrant number 1091 for $147,344.68; general fund warrant number 1092 for $54,025.00; general fund warrant number 1093 for $161,554.24; and warrant number 1094 for $474,007.56, listed for the wastewater treatment plant upgrade and fire/highway project.
Selectmen also approved a cemetery commission request for $800 to hire a company to locate underground leaks after the system was reported leaking about 14 gallons per hour and the water department was unable to locate the source. Meeting comments said the company uses ground‑penetrating radar and acoustic listening devices and estimated it could locate leaks in about three hours.
The board approved a Parks and Recreation spending request for $2,600 to purchase black, heavy‑duty, 3‑foot fence sections to delineate both ends of the children's play area; one vote to approve included an abstention recorded during the meeting.
A transfer of appropriations was approved to move $4,000 in the assessors’ accounts from a revaluation salary conversion account to a revaluation other‑expenses account; the board noted the item should have been coded as an expense rather than salary. Selectmen said that item will also go to the finance committee.
A reserve fund request of $6,100 was approved to cover police officer expenses after the account balance stood at negative $1,371.99. The board said the funds will be used to pay utility invoices and groundskeeping due to rising utility costs.
All spending motions carried by voice votes; no roll‑call tallies were read into the record.
