The Ellensburg City Council adopted Ordinance 4959 on May 5, updating Chapter 2.34 of the Ellensburg City Code to revise rates and rules for parks and recreation programs, rental fees, athletic field use and language governing alcohol at city facilities.
Parks and Recreation staff told the council many fees had not been raised for decades and noted two numeric corrections since first reading: an out‑of‑city adult 10‑punch pool pass should be $71.20 (not $71.25) and an adult three‑month pass should be $654.80 (not $654.75). Staff also presented a change to the alcohol policy language: references to “bottles or cans” were removed and the code now addresses service from kegs and the use of paper cups or similar soft‑sided containers at permitted events.
Staff said events that serve alcohol remain subject to the city’s special‑event permit process and to state Liquor and Cannabis Board rules for service and barriers; any event serving alcohol must come before council under the special‑event review process. Council members asked about kegs at events; staff said the revised ordinance would not prohibit kegs at permitted special events such as brewfests but the state’s licensing and barrier requirements would still apply.
A motion to conduct second reading and adopt the ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Council members voted in favor and the ordinance was adopted.
