District finance staff presented February financial results and projections and Superintendent Jenny Polk told the board that enrollment is up year over year by about 4,000 students.
Finance staff reported a projected fiscal-year-end general fund balance of approximately $24,200,000, up about $600,000 from January. Projected general fund revenue was stated near $364 million with projected expenses around $369 million; staff said final state funding depends on average daily membership (ADM). The building fund’s projected ending balance was reported around $14.3 million (roughly $26 million in revenue and $14 million in expenses in the presentation). Child nutrition through February showed roughly $28 million in revenue and $25 million in expenses with a projected ending fund balance near $10 million; staff noted February distance-learning days reduced meal service revenue.
When trustees asked whether building fund revenue came from bond sales, staff responded that building fund revenue is primarily tax collections and noted a timing difference had posted additional ESSER money this fiscal year, which accounted for pickup in one fund’s balance. Superintendent Polk added that the district is up about 4,000 students compared with the same time last year and asked principals to continue enrollment outreach; staff said enrollment growth affects teacher staffing and classroom allocations because teacher counts are determined by student counts.
Board members received the financial update as information. No action was taken on the financial report during the meeting.
