OPS board rejects bids for K–12 alternate curriculum textbooks; staff to recommend materials

The Board of Education of Douglas County School District No. 1 on May 19 voted to reject all bids submitted for alternate curriculum textbooks for the district's K–12 alternate curriculum program.

District staff told the board they reviewed the RFP process with purchasing and operations and are preparing recommended materials to present to the curriculum committee. "What you're seeing here is what we are rejecting but we are looking forward in the upcoming week to actually work with our curriculum committee to be able to share what we would like to recommend to move forward for our K12 alternate curriculum program as well as our K12 physical education program and our K12 music vocal and instrumental," a district staff member said at the meeting.

The motion to reject the bids was moved by Board Member Thielen and seconded by Dr. Holman. The board approved the motion by roll call, 7-0.

The rejection does not authorize purchase; it leaves the district without an awarded contract and signals staff will return with a recommendation for specific textbooks or curricula. Board members asked for and received staff assurance that the review was collaborative with district operations and purchasing, and that updated materials would be shared with the curriculum committee.

Staff indicated they would present options for K–12 alternate curriculum, physical education and vocal/instrumental music programs to the curriculum committee soon; the meeting did not set a specific date for that next presentation.
