North Ridgeville council approves engineering contracts and bids for Sugar Ridge projects after resident raises truck-damage concerns

Those actions matter because the projects are tied to regional funding and aim to address pavement damage and traffic safety on corridors used by heavy trucks. The city noted some projects are federally funded through NOACA and that moving by emergency clause will allow administration to seek bids more quickly.
During the lobby session before the votes, resident Albert Craig of 37903 Sugar Ridge Road told council that recently paved sections of Sugar Ridge Road are “already getting busted up from the trucks that no one's doing anything about.” He said a detour last week routed “hundreds of trucks” down his street, some after 10 p.m., and that he saw semis and towing combinations using the neighborhood road. “The speeders, unreal,” Craig said, and he questioned the value of installing bike lanes on Sugar Ridge Road: “It's pointless to put bike pass down Sugar Ridge Road. There's nowhere to go and there's no 1 we're gonna ride on.”
City Engineer (City of North Ridgeville) reported the railroad at-grade crossing work is complete and asked council to add the emergency clause for ordinance 2025-63 so the city “can take that out to bid sooner rather than later.” The engineer also said KMU is finishing punch-list work at the Peanut Roundabout and advised caution where truck aprons remain in use; he noted westbound Turnpike drivers will not be able to exit in North Ridgeville until after Aug. 1.
Council members repeatedly cited the projects’ funding and timing when voting to dispense with second and third readings and to adopt emergency clauses so procurement can proceed. Several related ordinances were adopted by roll call with unanimous affirmative votes among members present.
