Trustees approved six sign variations to allow additional and larger wall signs for a newly purchased Ford Pro service facility at Ridge Avenue and Dundee Road after the design commission recommended approval.
The Board approved six sign variations May 5 allowing Arlington Heights Ford to install multiple larger wall signs on a recently purchased service building behind the dealership.
Petitioner Cassie, a manager at Arlington Heights Ford, told the board the parcel was rezoned previously for service uses and the owner seeks additional permanent signage on the east and north elevations to guide customers: “We are looking for signage in the front, as well as signage on the side of the building that faces Dundee,” she said.
Village staff explained code normally allows only one wall sign at that parcel and that the petitioner requests relief for four wall signs and larger-than-permitted sign sizes. The design commission reviewed the request, recommended approval with a comment about potential north-elevation placement, and staff supported the recommendation after the petitioner explained internal wayfinding needs and visibility from West Dundee Road.
Trustees noted the signage will help customers navigate a multi-building campus and will strengthen visibility for drivers approaching from the west; the petitioner said the dealership will place a temporary banner to confirm visibility prior to installation. The board voted to direct staff and the village attorney to prepare final documents approving the variations; final orders will return on the consent agenda at the next meeting.
