The Auburn City Council approved a contract with Foresight Group LLC for an $85,000 master plan to develop Richland Park.
Parks and Recreation Director Allison Hall and staff told the council the master plan will translate earlier Parks and Recreation Cultural Master Plan recommendations into a site layout for this property. "One thing is we have in the Parks and Recreation Cultural Master Plan that was laid out… one of the things that we know for sure that is going in this park is baseball softball," a staff speaker said. Councilmembers asked about likely features, parking, restrooms and possible future phases including a recreation center.
Staff said the city owns roughly 20 acres of the site and the full site is larger; initial phases likely will prioritize baseball/softball fields, restrooms and parking. The master plan will produce concept options the council can review before committing to a formal design contract. Staff estimated an "all‑in" cost for the park in the order of magnitude of $50 million for full buildout, and said the initial master plan will help define phased options.
Council members asked practical questions about proximity to schools and pedestrian access; staff confirmed the site is across from Creekside Elementary School at Wilbuchner Parkway and Richland Road and noted existing sidewalk and multiuse path connections.
The motion to approve the contract carried by voice vote. The council will receive the master plan concepts before any design contract or construction funding is approved.
