Council OKs street closures, trolley for Strawberry Fest and July Fourth celebration

The Waupaca Common Council on May 6 approved the Waupaca Area Convention & Visitor Bureau's request for street closures for this year's Strawberry Fest in June and for the July Fourth parade and fireworks.
Mitch Swenson, representing the bureau, said the road‑closure plan is the same as last year with one new no‑parking zone on Session Street. He also described a trolley shuttle that will move people among the Strawberry Fest grounds, the recreation center (where a revived train show will be held), the depot, North Main shopping and Hutchinson's House. Swenson said event times and road‑closure maps are the same as the previous year and that city staff — including the city administrator and Police Chief Pete Crager — had reviewed the plans.
Councilor Demetri Martin moved to approve the request, seconded by Colin Dykstra. The council approved the closures by voice vote.
