Waupaca council approves ordinance to allow Class C wine licenses for retail stores

The Waupaca Common Council voted unanimously on May 6 to adopt Ordinance No. 12,025, repealing and recreating section 12.02(3)(k) of the municipal code to allow retail establishments to obtain a Class C wine license.
City Clerk Barbara Nowak told the council the only feedback received was a question about whether retail businesses could obtain a Class B picnic license for one-day special events; she said they could not because the picnic license is limited to bona fide clubs, chambers of commerce, veterans organizations or churches.
Council President Paul Mayo called for the motion and roll call. The ordinance passed on a 10-0 vote.
The ordinance is a second reading and follows discussion at the council's prior meeting. No additional changes or exceptions to existing licensing requirements were introduced during the May 6 meeting.
